Metal equipments like vessels, tanks, containers, boilers, compressors, engines, turbines, heat exchangers, tubes & pipe systems etc are manufactured well in advance for large projects. There is considerable time gap between manufacturing and commissioning of these equipments.
Equipments and pipe systems also need to undergo hydrostatic testing prior to shipping, storage and final use for the projects under installation and commissioning. It is, therefore, necessary to protect internal and enclosed metal surface of plants and equipments from corrosion & rust before these are put to use.
If adequate precaution is not taken during manufacturing stage, in most of the cases, metal cargo may reach the destination rusted or oxidized. Protection of inner metal surface of equipments is most challenging as anti-corrosive paint or coating can not be applied on such inner metal surfaces due to various reasons.
Corrosion of Metal Parts & Components during work in process due to Moisture & Humidity
Though corrosion is a complex function of many factors, one of major cause of corrosion & rust is presence of moisture and humidity in the atmosphere. It is invisible water vapour or moisture in the air which is responsible for rusting metal surfaces.
There is maximum amount of moisture that air can withhold at a particular temperature. If the level of moisture increases beyond this level, it (the increased level) will condense as a fog of tiny droplets which will either float in the surrounding level or settle as dew on nearby cold metal and other surfaces.
It is the proven scientific fact that warm and hot air has ability to hold more moisture than the cold air. Thus, when warm air cools down it becomes more humid and if there is considerable drop in temperature specially during night time, condensation will occur on metal surface which will result into corrosion of metal surface.
Thus during work in process, metal parts and components stored overnight get corroded and rusted because of condensation and due. In case of iron casting and forging, problem of corrosion and rust is very sever.
About VPI / VCI Corrosion & Rust Inhibitor Product
The word "VPI" stands for "Vapor Phase Inhibitor". It is also described, understood and known as "VCI" which stands for "Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor".
However both the words "VPI" & "VCI" have same meaning, understanding and are interchangeable.
SRW-230, a revolutionary, Water based VPI / VCI Corrosion & Rust Inhibitor Product
SRW-230 is a revolutionary 100 % water soluble VPI / VCI concentrated liquid formulation based on the chemistry of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) and Contact Corrosion Inhibitor (CCI).
SRW-230 is designed to protect from rust and corrosion the internal and enclosed ferrous metal surfaces of equipments like vessels, tanks, containers, boilers, compressors, engines, heat exchangers, tubes & pipe systems. It is replacement of oil based corrosion preventives and other rust protective coatings.
This specially formulated VPI / VCI additive prevents corrosion and rust on metal surfaces in both vapor and contact phases. Since SRW-230 is water soluble, moisture present in environment will also dissolve in it. Thus moisture will not be in position to cause any damage to the metal surface. It will also be effective in high humid atmosphere.
It does not require activation prior to uses. No special surface preparation is required and no special treatment is necessary. However remove dirt, oil, grease or rust present on the metal surface. SRW-230 is to be fogged or sprayed into vessels, tanks, containers, boilers, compressors, engines turbines.
SRW-230 is also most suitable for Protecting ferrous metal parts and components during work in process, storage and final packing, from rust and corrosion. It can be applied by dipping, washing, brushing and rinsing.
It is scientific fact that all VPI / VCI Corrosion Protective Products give Protection in Enclosed Surrounding and Atmosphere, hence after application of SRW-230, for optimum results and for long term protection, parts and components should be packed in poly bags, preferably in VCI Poly Bags.

Removal of SRW-230
SRW-230 does not typically need to be removed as it is 100 % water soluble. If, however, removal is desired a simple cold water flush or water spray is sufficient.
